Our Story

Don and Jan Van Houtte, once known as the 'King and Queen of the Squash Patch" - Van Houtte Farms

Don's family has farmed for more than 75 years. Don's family moved to Mt. Clemens in 1956 when he was in the second grade. "The family farm was urbanized out," Don notes.

In 1972, Don and his brother Jerry moved to Grand Rapids, Ohio, a small community that's 20 miles west of Toledo where they focused on growing tomatoes, melons and sweet corn. Jerry Van Houtte remains there to this day, selling dried and fresh flowers.
